Style Icon: Stevie Nicks

Let me start this off by saying, I love Stevie Nicks. She is so talented, and an awesome human being. And her style, is seriously cool. Even today, she rocks this effortless seventies style that looks absolutely amazing, especially because she has the attitude to pull it off. I love to pull inspiration from her long, flowing tops and skirts, and the overall rocker - hippie feel of her outfits. Here are a few of my favorites.

Here are some inspired pieces that I felt captured the essence of Stevie's ethereal style.

Obviously, its the seventies, so flared pants are a must. I especially love this sheer pair from River Island, its very hippie. Paired with a simple tank and a loose flowing cardigan or kimono, and you've got a great outfit. For skirts, I would stick to a longer length, but you could do a maxi or a midi, or even a slightly shorter one, just no mini skirts. You're gonna want one with lots of movement to it. And for tops, whether its a blouse of a cardigan or kimono, you want something loose and flowing. You don't have to wear long sleeves, they can be short sleeve or sleeveless tops too, just make sure they are not constricting in any way.

Much like her skirts, Stevie's dresses were never tight and super short, they always had great movement. She always liked to either choose a dress with something interesting, like bell sleeves or uneven hems, or add something interesting to a simple dress. For instance, if you take the black maxi dress from H&M and add some long layered necklaces, a fringey scarf, a vest, or a loose flowing cardigan or kimono (or even a few of these things) you could rock Stevie's hippie look.

Now, I know not everyone wants to wear an outfit that looks like its been yanked out of the seventies. The great thing with Stevie Nicks style is that you could easily take one or two pieces and integrate them into your modern wardrobe, the easiest probably being a flowy maxi skirt, since those are a current spring/summer trend. I also find that her loose fitting style of clothing is great for the summer - who wants their clothes sticking to their sweat?!

A Pack Rat's Closet

I have way too many clothes. There, I said it, I  own too many items of clothing! I mean, its not as if I go out every day and buy five new things, all at full price, but sometimes it feels like that is the case. In reality, I find a lot of things at sales, or ebay, or thrift/charity shops, and a good chunk of what is in my closet now are things that I have had for years. Literally, I'm sitting on my bed right now and I can see a crochet tank top that I got from American Eagle when I was 12 for about $6. I think its safe to say that I am a bit of a pack rat.

But its time for that to change. I've graduated high school and completed my first year at university half way around the world - I don't need to hold onto things I've owned since middle school, even if they do still look fine. Besides, my parents are moving out of this house within the coming year, and I would not wish the horror of packing up my room as it is now on anyone. So I'm going to do what I do best: make lists. One list for clothes that I definitely want to keep, one list for clothes that I will get rid of, and then a list of all the clothes that didn't make it onto either list because I just forgot about them. For the clothes I forgot about, I'll wait a week or two to see if I use them, and then if not I donate them with the rest of the giveaway clothing.

And you know what the best part about going through and cleaning out your closet? Filling it with new goodies.

Love,

Caro

P.S. I'll post some before and after pictures of my closet for you lovelies when I finish.

Monday Blues

Mondays are tough, when there's school or work. They mark the end of the weekend, and oftentimes they leave people groggy and listless, just trying to make it to the end of the day. Right now, I'm home for the summer from uni, so Mondays should not be terribly stressful - and yet somehow, with all the pressure of the coming week, and trying to start the week off right, they can still be a little icky. So each Monday, I'll be posting a little picture quote, with a nice saying to leave you feeling more positive about your Monday.

The quote I chose for this week is something that I love to remind myself. I know most people usually take this kind of advice in a figurative manner, but personally I also love this one for its literal meaning. Enjoy!

So today, on this Monday, I urge you to take a moment out of your day, blast whatever song it is that makes you just want to get up and dance like an idiot, and do just that. You'll be much better for it, I promise.

 Happy Monday!

Caro

The Trend: Sunflower Print

Recently, I've been noticing this trend of loud, colorful, allover sunflower print on a lot of different pieces of clothing, and I kind of love it. It's bright, and fun, and youthful, and in my mind it is the epitome of summer. There are so many different ways to wear this trend, so here are some options that I found that are on the more affordable side.

High-waisted shorts are probably one of the most flattering things I have encountered in the world of fashion, and what better way to incorporate some sunflowers into your wardrobe than incredibly flattering shorts? These shorts are from American Apparel, and would look so cute with a simple, solid crop top in brown, some sandals, and a giant floppy hat if you're feeling daring.

These overalls are from pacsun, and they are such a cute combination of the sunflower print and overall trend, which is everywhere this summer. I actually own two pairs of overalls already - a short, light wash denim pair, and a long, mid wash denim pair. They are so comfy, and perfect for when you want to look cute and unique without a lot of effort. This patterned pair would look great with a white crocheted top underneath, and paired with some sandals or ballet flats.

If you're like me and bright yellow isn't really your color, this tea dress from River Island is a great alternative. It still has the allover sunflowers, but they are toned down a little and paired with a bright red, another great color for summer. Tea dresses are awesome because they are so comfortable, like a t shirt, but they have a little more shape and class than just a t shirt dress.

This minkpink dress is probably my favorite item on here. As a blonde, I generally do not look good in yellow, or sadly bright red. However, this dress is right up my alley, with a loose, flowing feel to it, a gorgeous blue or turquoise background, and patchwork style mesh of the sunflower print (not to mention its name, "Ashbury"). This dress would look amazing with a pair of ridiculously strappy gladiator sandals, in pretty much any color you want.

This crop top is from American Apparel, and as far as sunflower print items go it is probably the most versatile. I could see this going from summer to fall, possibly pairing it with some high-waisted denim shorts or a skater skirt in the summer, and a pair of high-waisted jeans in a dark wash  and a loose grey cardigan for fall.

Personally, I think this trend is pretty awesome. However, I am aware that it is a very summery print, and most of these pieces are meant to be worn only in the summer. I definitely would not be rocking those sunflower shorts with sandals in the middle of winter in Scotland, no sirree. That being said, none of these prices break the bank, and so picking up one (or maybe even two) items in a sunflower print would not be a waste of money. Or, for those of us who live with their parents and don't have a job (me, sadly) jewelry in various sunflower designs is always an option. ;)

OOTD - Wisdom Teeth Consultation & National Donut Day!

It was pretty hot outside today, so I went with this sleeveless polka dot dress from T.K. Maxx (T.J. Maxx for the Americans out there), and I wore it with a pair of Topshop sandals, a Monki bag, a pair of New Look sunglasses, and a jumper from Primark (because doctor's offices are always freezing).

Happy National Donut Day!

My day just got about a million times better, as I found out that there is no way that I will be getting my wisdom teeth out today! I can not begin to explain how relieved I am feeling. Its pretty much the perfect day for a donut.

Do any of you have any donut related plans for today? I'd love to hear about them!
