Traveling

This Monday, I leave California to go back to Scotland
for school. Its a little sad, because I have to go back early for a test, but I plan on making the most of it once the test is done and doing some traveling!

I've been flying on planes for most of my life, but in the last year or so I've started getting increasingly nervous on flights. To keep calm, I listen to music and I do my best to be asleep when the plane takes off - I've found that if I'm not aware that the plane is actually departing from the ground, I'm a lot less nervous for the flight. Which is good when your flight lasts 8+ hours.

Also, I wanted to make a quick apology for the fact that I've been making a few less posts lately, and that will likely continue for a little while. I'll be traveling and adjusting myself back to Scotland, and then moving into my flat and cramming for my test until August 14th. But after that, I should be up and running, even if I do some more traveling.

A Pack Rat's Closet

I have way too many clothes. There, I said it, I  own too many items of clothing! I mean, its not as if I go out every day and buy five new things, all at full price, but sometimes it feels like that is the case. In reality, I find a lot of things at sales, or ebay, or thrift/charity shops, and a good chunk of what is in my closet now are things that I have had for years. Literally, I'm sitting on my bed right now and I can see a crochet tank top that I got from American Eagle when I was 12 for about $6. I think its safe to say that I am a bit of a pack rat.

But its time for that to change. I've graduated high school and completed my first year at university half way around the world - I don't need to hold onto things I've owned since middle school, even if they do still look fine. Besides, my parents are moving out of this house within the coming year, and I would not wish the horror of packing up my room as it is now on anyone. So I'm going to do what I do best: make lists. One list for clothes that I definitely want to keep, one list for clothes that I will get rid of, and then a list of all the clothes that didn't make it onto either list because I just forgot about them. For the clothes I forgot about, I'll wait a week or two to see if I use them, and then if not I donate them with the rest of the giveaway clothing.

And you know what the best part about going through and cleaning out your closet? Filling it with new goodies.

Love,

Caro

P.S. I'll post some before and after pictures of my closet for you lovelies when I finish.

The Trend: Sunflower Print

Recently, I've been noticing this trend of loud, colorful, allover sunflower print on a lot of different pieces of clothing, and I kind of love it. It's bright, and fun, and youthful, and in my mind it is the epitome of summer. There are so many different ways to wear this trend, so here are some options that I found that are on the more affordable side.

High-waisted shorts are probably one of the most flattering things I have encountered in the world of fashion, and what better way to incorporate some sunflowers into your wardrobe than incredibly flattering shorts? These shorts are from American Apparel, and would look so cute with a simple, solid crop top in brown, some sandals, and a giant floppy hat if you're feeling daring.

These overalls are from pacsun, and they are such a cute combination of the sunflower print and overall trend, which is everywhere this summer. I actually own two pairs of overalls already - a short, light wash denim pair, and a long, mid wash denim pair. They are so comfy, and perfect for when you want to look cute and unique without a lot of effort. This patterned pair would look great with a white crocheted top underneath, and paired with some sandals or ballet flats.

If you're like me and bright yellow isn't really your color, this tea dress from River Island is a great alternative. It still has the allover sunflowers, but they are toned down a little and paired with a bright red, another great color for summer. Tea dresses are awesome because they are so comfortable, like a t shirt, but they have a little more shape and class than just a t shirt dress.

This minkpink dress is probably my favorite item on here. As a blonde, I generally do not look good in yellow, or sadly bright red. However, this dress is right up my alley, with a loose, flowing feel to it, a gorgeous blue or turquoise background, and patchwork style mesh of the sunflower print (not to mention its name, "Ashbury"). This dress would look amazing with a pair of ridiculously strappy gladiator sandals, in pretty much any color you want.

This crop top is from American Apparel, and as far as sunflower print items go it is probably the most versatile. I could see this going from summer to fall, possibly pairing it with some high-waisted denim shorts or a skater skirt in the summer, and a pair of high-waisted jeans in a dark wash  and a loose grey cardigan for fall.

Personally, I think this trend is pretty awesome. However, I am aware that it is a very summery print, and most of these pieces are meant to be worn only in the summer. I definitely would not be rocking those sunflower shorts with sandals in the middle of winter in Scotland, no sirree. That being said, none of these prices break the bank, and so picking up one (or maybe even two) items in a sunflower print would not be a waste of money. Or, for those of us who live with their parents and don't have a job (me, sadly) jewelry in various sunflower designs is always an option. ;)

OOTD - Wisdom Teeth Consultation & National Donut Day!

It was pretty hot outside today, so I went with this sleeveless polka dot dress from T.K. Maxx (T.J. Maxx for the Americans out there), and I wore it with a pair of Topshop sandals, a Monki bag, a pair of New Look sunglasses, and a jumper from Primark (because doctor's offices are always freezing).

Love,

Caro

Happy National Donut Day!

My day just got about a million times better, as I found out that there is no way that I will be getting my wisdom teeth out today! I can not begin to explain how relieved I am feeling. Its pretty much the perfect day for a donut.

Do any of you have any donut related plans for today? I'd love to hear about them!

An Introduction

Hi there!

I know right now that no one is probably reading this, but I figured it might come in handy (somehow) later. Who knows? And besides, the basic, introductory first post on a blog is kind of a tradition.

My name is Caroline, but I also go by Caro. I was born and raised in California, and I just finished my first year at the University of Glasgow. Scotland is a little different than what I'm used to, but I've never been one to shy away from something new.

I made this blog for several different reasons. First of all, I just enjoy blogging. I have, I think, three different tumblr accounts! But with tumblr, I reblog more things than I post myself, so I created this to make it a bit more personal. Also, I have a problem with clothes. I love clothes way, way, way too much. And I figured what better way to feed my addiction than to create a blog where I can post my thoughts on clothes, things I've bought recently, things I want to buy, etc. But this blog is not just for fashion related things - it's about my life in general and the different things I've experienced that some people might like to hear about, or chat with me about.

So yeah. I think that does a nice job of summing me and this blog up in a concise manner. Feel free to leave a comment for me, I absolutely love talking with people!

Love,

Caro
